Dominique Masks
Newhall, California

Behind the mask of our everyday persona lies our true face we had before we were born. Un-weathered by time and beauty is this face behind the face. The soul, covered over by layers of hardened emotion and rigid mental structure, finally crystallizes into the human mask we all wear so proudly. The light that radiates from a newborn's tiny face is slowly stolen away by the thief of time, leaving behind a sculpted visage on which is etched all that we have thought and felt throughout our life.

Holly Merritt Leather
Santa Cruz, California

"To achieve the exotic, organic animal like look on the leather, I use a technique called Shibori, an ancient Japanese resist dyeing process. Shibori comes from the Japanese verb meaning to wring, squeeze or press. I've derived my own adaptation of Shibori to get the unusual effects you see on my leather garments. I also combine my love of textiles with leather using imported hand-woven fabrics, tapestries, double weaves, beads, adornments, silks and anything the inspires me!"
